Volunteer Opportunities

Elections are not possible without engaged citizens! Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering for the Hatboro Democratic Party for the following:

Outside Poll Greeter

Responsibilities include: Welcoming Voters: Positioned outside polling places, greeters offer a friendly presence, answer questions, and provide guidance to voters as they arrive. Distributing Literature: Hand out Democratic sample ballots and other relevant materials to inform voters about party candidates and positions. Providing Assistance: Help voters understand the voting process, and direct them to the correct polling locations. Monitoring and Reporting: While not official poll watchers, greeters remain vigilant for any issues such as voter intimidation or misinformation. They report any concerns to designated poll observers or party officials to ensure a fair voting environment. Encouraging Voter Engagement: Greeters may encourage voters to remind friends and family to vote, a tactic known as “vote tripling,” to increase voter turnout. It’s important to note that poll greeters must adhere to local regulations, including maintaining a specified distance from polling place entrances to avoid electioneering violations. They should also be prepared for various weather conditions and plan accordingly for their comfort during their shifts.

Responsibilities include: Observing the Voting Process: Poll watchers monitor the setup of voting equipment, the conduct of election officials, and the overall voting procedures to ensure compliance with election laws.   Maintaining Voter Lists: They may keep track of voters who have cast their ballots, which can assist campaigns in identifying supporters who have yet to vote.   Challenging Voter Eligibility: If a poll watcher has a good faith belief that a voter is not qualified (e.g., questions about identity or residency), they can raise these concerns with the Judge of Elections at the polling place.   To serve as a poll watcher, individuals must meet specific qualifications: Residency: They must be registered voters in Montgomery County, where Hatboro is located.   Appointment and Certification: Poll watchers are appointed by candidates or political parties and must obtain an official certificate from the county election office. This certificate must be presented upon request at the polling place.   It’s important to note that while poll watchers play a vital role in ensuring election integrity, they are subject to specific limitations: Non-Interference: They are not permitted to engage directly with voters, campaign inside the polling place, or disrupt the voting process.   Observation Boundaries: Poll watchers must remain outside the enclosed space where voting occurs and can only observe proceedings from designated areas.
